BJ's Wholesale Club's reach is smaller than Costco and Sam's Club's. Yet, with several other locations launching soon, it is undoubtedly increasing competition.
Last week, the store announced five new clubs in 2023, including its first Alabama branch. BJ will expand to 20 states with the Madison, Ala.
BJ's has opened in Davenport, Fla., and McDonough, Ga., in 2023.
"We are continually seeking to introduce our BJ's membership concept to new areas and even more smart-saving families," the company's senior vice president of strategy and development stated.
"Our latest openings have done well. We quickly expanded into Tennessee and Alabama to suit BJ's increasing member base's need for value, convenience, and assortment."
Good news for BJ's warehouse neighbors. Members who are still suffering from high gas prices can utilize their membership privileges to buy fuel at BJ's gas stations at all five new sites.
BJ's will still be far behind Costco and Sam's Club once these five additional sites open.
Sam's Club had roughly 600 US and Puerto Rico stores, whereas Costco had 848 globally as of January.
The data business says BJ's has 250 Clubs across 16 states, yet the website says 215+.
BJ's is largely concentrated in the eastern and southern United States, however consumers in areas without a BJ's might hope the business expands westward.
