Major Grocery Chains Are Opening New Locations

The southern grocer built 10 new stores this season, including four in October. The employee-owned grocery business had ribbon-cuttings other weeks, too.

Costco

In August, the big-box retailer opened four new shops in Florida, Texas, California, and Wisconsin. In October and November, seven new warehouses will join the U.S.'s 830+ facilities.

Trader Joe's

Trader Joe's just opened four stores. Providence, R.I., and College Park, Md., received TJ's. Open are these and Tigard, Ore. The Utah location will debut in 2023.

BJ's Wholesale Club

Sam's Club and Costco should beware. BJ's Wholesale Club, a membership-only supermarket business, has had a successful year in the east.

Meijer

The Midwest grocery chain—operating in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, and Wisconsin—will open two small-format shops in early 2023.

Eataly

Eataly is an Italian supermarket and restaurant company. The 2007 idea has spread to the U.S., England, Germany, Canada, and more.

Hannaford Supermarkets

New Brunswick Hannaford opened on September 17. Another shop is planned for Scarborough, Maine, the company's origin, in 2023.

H-E-B

H-E-B is expanding in the Dallas-Fort Worth region of Texas. Frisco's community shop opened on September 21, and four more will follow.

Aldi

Prepare your coins and bags. Aldi announced an intention to open 150 additional stores in the U.S. by 2022.
